Book Giveaway: Unstoppable by Tim Green

Thanks to Olivia at Harper Collins Children's Books I ended up with both an ARC and a finished copy of Unstoppable by Tim Green.  I thought Unstoppable was a book my son would enjoy and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it especially considering football really isn't my thing.  I was just going to read the first chapter last night to be sure it was a book I was comfortable letting my son read.  Next thing I knew I was 100 pages into it.  Picked it back up this morning and finished it by lunch time.

From the cover I was expecting something much different than what I got.  Unstoppable is an inspirational heart-warming story I couldn't put down.

Since I have 2 copies and don't need both I'm offering up my ARC to a reader of this blog.

Unstoppable

On the field or off, it takes all you've got to be a winner.
If anyone understands the phrase "tough luck," it's Harrison. As a foster kid in a cruel home, he knows his dream of one day playing for the NFL is a long shot.
Then Harrison's luck seems to change. He is brought into a new home with kind, loving parents—his new dad is even a football coach. Harrison's big build and his incredible determination quickly make him a star running back on the junior high school team. In no time, he's practically unstoppable.
But Harrison's good luck can't last forever.
In his most dramatic and hard-hitting story yet, former NFL defensive end Tim Green writes about what it takes to be a winner, even when it seems like fate has dealt an impossible hand. Inspired by interviews with real-life cancer survivors and insider sports experience, this unforgettable story shows a brave boy who learns what it truly means to be unstoppable.

Blog Tour: Author Interview: Guardian of the Moon Pendant by Laura J. Williams

BB Book Tours

Welcome to Author Laura J. Williams

Laura J. Williams is a hopeless and lost cause, tucked away in her dark sleeping chamber, in her gloomy abyss of a writing cave, separated from the realm of man, chomping on chicken legs and quenching her thirst with large glasses of red wine. She is consoled daily by her rescued cat, baby-kitty, who only gives her love when she wants to.
Aye, it is a sad life she lives…
But, God danced the day Laura was born, the angels rejoiced, and the demons trembled.
She’s just another day-dreamer with a story to tell, doing her best to kick arse. She hides behind a shroud of anonymity, creating a world of lost mythical creatures, breathing life into them, and praying that someone will take pleasure in her work.
She is the warrior of the heroine, the sorceress of words, yielder of magic, teller of dark secrets, and the jester of tantalizing tales.

Interview:
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Yes. I’m working on the second book for Guardian of the Moon Pendant (Not sure of the name yet). We continue our adventure exploring the world of the Celtic Fae. It’ll be a BLAST! In book three I’m going to introduce another heroine and that story will be based in Ireland.

What is your dream cast for your book?
Dream Cast
Anabel: Deborah Ann Woll
Izzy: Katy Perry
Blane: Chris Hemsworth
Fergus: Alex Pettyfer
Vyx: Tom Hardy (when he’s in Warrior)
Harriet: Kathy Bates
Edgar: Christopher Gorham
Hamish: Michael Gambon
Lainahwyn: Emilia Clarke

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Here’s Anabel’s theme song:
Shake it Out: Florence + the Machine: Shake it Out

Izzy’s Theme Song:
Everything Louder Than Everything Else: Meatloaf: Bat out of Hell 2: Back into Hell

This is Izzy’s song to Vyx:
Gives You Hell: The All-American Rejects: When the World Comes Down

This is for the Guardian of the Moon Pendant:
Alanis Morissette: Guardian

If you could choose only one time period and place to live, when and where would you live and why?
I’d like to live in Oxford England around the 1930s when J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and the Inklings would meet at the Eagle and Child Pub in Oxford. I don’t believe they allowed women in their little group. But, I’m sure I’d win them over and slink my way in. I’m good like that!

What is your favorite Quote?
Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History: by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

Who are your favorite authors of all time?
J.R.R Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, J.K. Rowling

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
Absolutely. I think there’s a little Anabel and Izzy in all of us.

Favorite Food?
My sister’s homemade garbage cookies! Yum! We nicknamed them ‘garbage cookies’ because we throw EVERYTHING into the oatmeal cookie batter: two types of chocolate chips (dark and semi-sweet), toffee, two types of nuts (walnuts and pecans), craisins, and coconut flakes! Seriously - awesome cookies!

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Eggs!

Skittles or M&Ms?
Green Peanut M&Ms. Why? Green for being Irish and I like the peanut ones the best!

If you were a bird, which one would you be?
I’d be a Hawk. They’re beautiful, powerful, and lethal!

You have won one million dollars what is the first thing that you would buy?
I’m lame, I’d buy a house. Right after I a long weekend at a spa and a new wardrobe. J

What's your favorite season/weather?
Autumn is my fav! Probably because I was born in the fall, but it’s also absolutely gorgeous here in New York with the foliage.

Favorite places to travel?
Ireland and Scotland.

PC or Mac?
I have both. So both a PC and a Mac. I’m a nerd after all!

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m the youngest of nine children. I guess that’s why I understand sibling rivalry so well.

Guardian of the Moon Pendant by Laura J. Williams

The MacAlpin women are of a fierce clan, born from a rare bloodline that harbors a dark and powerful secret – a mystical heirloom called the Moon Pendant. It is the key to controlling the MääGord standing stones, a magical Portal into the Otherworld, the realm of the Fae.

Anabel and Izzy MacAlpin are two sisters, polar opposites, living separate lives.

Anabel’s life is going precisely according to her plan, a ring on her finger from her steady beau, Edgar, and medical school in the fall.

Izzy’s life is filled with scars and wounds from her past. Dubbed the “spare child” by her family and treated poorly, she rebelled, and now lives life by her own rules.

These two sisters’ worlds are about to explode when one of them must go to Scotland and fulfill her duty as the Guardian of the Moon Pendant, by recharging this magical heirloom with four elementals, air, earth, water, and fire, and then finally close the Portal.

There’s only one problem…

The Baobhan Sith – a vampiric faery who lures men in with her hypnotic voice, feeding on their blood or transforming them into Màrmann, her zombie-like warriors who do her bidding – desires the Moon Pendant to take control over the Portal, opening a gateway into the realm of man, helping her to seek revenge on the MacAlpin clan, and to quench her eternal thirst for human blood.

Anabel finds herself torn between a sinfully handsome Scottish warrior, Blane and her fiancée, Edgar. Izzy finds herself, angered by her sister’s lack of faith in her.

Both sisters are forced to help one another, but may end up killing each other in the end. Surrounded by an array of good and evil Scottish Fae like a vampiric faery, the Baobhan Sith, zombie-warriors, the Ankou, Dryads, the Fachan, the Ghillie Dhu, Heather Pixies, Leigheas, the Nuckelavee, the Bloody Baron a Red Cap, Stone Faeries, Trows, and Will-o’-the-wisps.

Will these two sisters put aside their differences before the final task to charge the Moon Pendant or will the Baobhan Sith, the vampiric faery, be successful and open the Portal into the Otherworld?

Interview:
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
If you’re into badass female leads, tension-filled romance, and something a little paranormal or sci-fi, Stitch has all that plus a twist that will knock your socks off.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Reading the first reviews by people who didn’t know me – WOW, that was flattering!  And partnering with book bloggers, who have proven to be incredibly generous, both in taking a chance on a completely new author (me!) and helping me find an audience for my crazy book.  Bloggers have seriously restored my faith in humanity – people are GOOD.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
My cat, my fiancé, and my Kindle!

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Cookie dough, with hot fudge and whipped cream.  Mmmm.

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?
Hogwarts, naturally.  Though I would tie in the animal daemon concept from the His Dark Materials series, and/or the dragons from Eragon.  Basically, I want to live someplace where magic exists and I can communicate directly with my cat.  Then my life would be complete.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?
This is a good one.  I wanted to be a lot of things: first female basketball player in the NBA, the first female president (WHY has this still not happened??), a lawyer and a model on the side, a hockey ref in the NHL…  Pretty much the only thing it never occurred to me to be was a writer, lol.

What's the best advice anyone has ever given you?
This is from one of my little brothers, to reassure me I was doing the right thing when leaving my comfortable job at Microsoft to start my own company and become a freelance writer (which, given the disparity in pay and job security, no one seemed to understand why I was doing…): “Part of being an entrepreneur is having everyone tell you you’re crazy and doing it anyway.”

Hidden talent?
Haha, if you ask any of my college friends, it’s writing.  (I took a little detour from my love of writing in college and I’m learning now that no one even knew I had an interest in it!)  But if you ask any of my high school friends or family members, they’ll tell you I’ve got nothing – I can’t sing, I can’t dance, I can’t juggle, I can’t do any tricks, I can’t even snap.  When it comes to talent shows, I am completely useless!  But at least I can write.  J

What's your favorite season/weather?
Until this year, I would have said summer, without a doubt.  I was born in the summer, I love to swim, I love to be outside, and I always appreciated the freedom of summer – not having to be anywhere or do anything unless it pleased me.  I always found that very inspiring.  But I think this year (and especially with no A/C in my apartment…) I’ve had a little TOO much summer.  Global warming = BAD.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
My fiancé and I drank a bottle of Cristal.  Baller!  (But not really, because my fiancé’s brother had given it to us as an engagement present…  Thanks Joy!)

Favorite smell?
Onions and garlic cooking in olive oil.  Brings me right back to waking up on Sunday mornings with my mom starting a pot of gravy in the kitchen.  Or at the very least, I know that smell signals the coming of a delicious meal!

TV or Movies?
I love both, but if I had to choose, I’d go with TV.  I love to go on rampant TV binges where I watch like an entire series in some absurdly short amount of time.  I recently re-watched all of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel in chronological order as they aired, and it was fantastic, even better than I remembered.  Before that it was the first four seasons of Mad Men (until I’d caught up), and before that, all four seasons (plus movies and webisodes and mini-series) of Battlestar Galactica over the course of one Christmas break.  Heaven!

Pet peeve?
Smoking.  Ugh, I HATE smoking.  I hate smoke.  I wish it was illegal, everywhere, for everyone.  If I could share one message with the world, it would be this: Please don’t smoke, especially not in public places (i.e., the street, parks, or anywhere other people could be present, ever), and especially not in dense NYC apartments where it seeps through the vents and walls and floors and makes your neighbors want to die.  (And in fact, you are slowly killing said neighbors.  So thanks.)

Coke or Pepsi?
Coke.  Diet coke, to be exact.  My housemates in college drank enough Diet Coke to buy a full-size basketball shooting game (like from an arcade) with Coke Points.  (We drank A LOT of Diet Coke.)  However, I’ve since cut back to one a day, since I’m worried soda will turn out to be our generation’s cigarettes.  (And you know how I feel about cigarettes!  But at least when I drink Diet Coke, no one around me is forced to drink it too!!)

Horror or Romance?
Can’t I have both?

Pizza or Pasta?
Ditto.

Do you prefer a bunch of small gifts or one big expensive one?
Even more ditto!

What is your favorite way to spend a rainy day?
The same way I spend most of my other days – chilling at home with my cat on my lap and something delicious on the stove.  I love my life. J

Stitch by Samantha Durante
Her heart races, her muscles coil, and every impulse in Alessa’s body screams at her to run… but yet she’s powerless to move.
Still struggling to find her footing after the sudden death of her parents, the last thing college freshman Alessa has the strength to deal with is the inexplicable visceral pull drawing her to a handsome ghostly presence. In between grappling with exams and sorority soirees – and disturbing recurring dreams of being captive in a futuristic prison hell – Alessa is determined to unravel the mystery of the apparition who leaves her breathless. But the terrifying secret she uncovers will find her groping desperately through her nightmares for answers.
Because what Alessa hasn’t figured out yet is that she’s not really a student, the object of her obsession is no ghost, and her sneaking suspicions that something sinister is lurking behind the walls of her university’s idyllic campus are only just scratching the surface…
The opening installment in a twist-laden trilogy, Stitch spans the genres of paranormal romance and dystopian sci-fi to explore the challenges of a society in transition, where morality, vision, and pragmatism collide leaving the average citizen to suffer the results.
