Thankful Thursday 2/21

This is not a "new" idea.  Thankful Thursday has been around for years.  Back when I was regularly posting on my personal blog I often put up a Thankful Thursday post. I searched the internet looking for the originator of the idea but it is hosted on so many different blogs I couldn't begin to guess who gets the credit for it.  My personal blog doesn't get posted on anymore but I've been thinking a lot about gratitude lately.  I'm going to be putting up a Thankful Thursday post regularly on this blog.  Sometimes it will be about reading or blogging and other times it will be more personal.

THANKFUL THURSDAY

I have a new dishwasher & a new fridge!  My old ones were older than the hills, the refrigerator was taped together and leaking water, the dishwasher didn't do a very good job of cleaning the dishes (I had to prewash them before putting them in the dishwasher).

My dad came to town last week and decided it was past time to replace the fridge.  While he was at it he got us a new dishwasher too!  My new fridge is so nice and the new dishwasher actually gets my dishes clean!

Love them!!

THANKFUL THURSDAY

Today's Thankful Thursday is a personal one.  Last night was the final game of my son's basketball season.  His Freshman team placed first in region with an undefeated 17 - 0 record.

After the game last night they were able to come back out and cut down the net.  I'm sad the season is over but extremely grateful I no longer have to wake up at 5:15 to get him to early morning practice.

Go Thunder!!

THANKFUL THURSDAY

I came across this quote last week. It really touched me.

"So isn't it better to see with our eyes and hearts even the small things we can be thankful for, rather than magnifying the negative in our current condition?"
—Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I've been really trying to do that this past week.  As I've mentioned before one of my children has some health issues.  Sometimes it is way too easy to focus on the negative instead of the positive, especially when my son having a hard day. Instead I've been trying to focus on the bump in the road I'm trying to be grateful that overall he is doing so much better now than he has been in the past.  Most days are now good days instead of bad.  We have finally found some great doctors who listen.   And I'm especially grateful that I have enough faith and hope to know that things will turn out just as the Lord has promised and he will be fine.

THANKFUL THURSDAY

Thursday is almost over and this is the first chance I've had in over 24 hours to sit down at my computer for more than a minute or two.

Today I'm thankful to be home.

I have a son with some medical problems. Overall things have been going well but sometimes things can get a little rocky and I feared we weren't going to make it through this blip without a trip to the hospital. Thankfully we are currently home and I am hoping, praying and believing that we are going to make it through this rough spot with nothing more than a little lost sleep.  I'm also grateful for a couple of dear friends who have gone out of their way to help.  The bring to my mind this quote from Spencer W. Kimball.

"God does notice us, and he watches over us. But it is usually through another person that he meets our needs."

Today I'm thankful for warm weather.  Well not really "warm" but warmer than it was last week.  I traveled an hour north for my sons basketball game again today and despite the snow on the ground when we got there it was not bone chilling cold like it was last week.  Spring is just around the corner and I can't wait.  I don't like it too hot or too cold so I'm looking forward to the fast approaching springtime weather.

Thankful Thursday

I'm not really a "sports" kinda gal.  I don't ever watch football or basketball on TV.  I don't follow any college or professional teams.  Sure if you ask me who I'm rooting for it would be BYU or the Dodgers or Lakers simply because that is where I grew up or went to school.  But honestly I could really care less, it's just not my thing.

But then there is another side of me - the "sports" mom side.  If my kids are playing I'm there and I'm cheering for them.  This summer found me just out of the hospital barely able to walk and yet there I was on the sidelines in a wheelchair watching my son play.  Because it is important to me to.

Today I'm grateful for awesome coaches.  My son plays high school ball.  He's not a starter so he doesn't play much but he has got some fabulous coaches.  I'm there at every game watching and waiting for those couple of minutes my son gets to play.  Watching some of the most recent displays by other coaches and players on other teams has made me realize just what a blessing it is to have coaches who are able to keep their temper in check and expect their players to do the same.  So today my hat is off to Coach Pollock & Coach Jones and all the other individuals who selflessly give their time and talents as coaches.  This "sports mom" thanks you.

Confession - I "bribe" my children.  When they accomplish certain things they earn a reward.  My oldest accomplished one of his goals yesterday which meant I got to take him out to eat today.

So tonight I'm thankful for Cafe Rio.  Probably not the best bet as far as calories go but it's so yummy!

Thankful Thursday

I was sitting down to do this post tonight when my daughter started crying that she had hit her head.  I turned around to find her hands covered in blood.  She had been getting off the piano bench and slipped and hit her forehead on the corner of the piano.  Thankfully it was before 9 pm so she and I hurried off to InstaCare since it looked like it would need stitches.

So for this Thankful Thursday I'm grateful for access to good medical care just a few minutes from our home. The staff at InstaCare put her right at ease and she got 3 stitches without a complaint.  I'm not a huge fan of doctors except for cases like this when they are definitely a blessing.

Today I'm grateful for something reading related.  My Kindle.  I have the cheapest Kindle available and I love it!  I spent the good portion of the day yesterday reading books on my Kindle.  (Merry Christmas to me).

I never really thought the day would come when I would prefer an ereader to print books but I do.  It's so easy to use, easy to read from, easy to hold... I currently have over 500 books on my Kindle.  Technology is amazing.

I love the fact that I can email books directly to it. It's an awesome feature! No need to plug it in to transfer books, you can just email them.  I've heard you can email a PDF file to your Kindle and it will automatically convert it.

Thankful Thursday - There is always something to be thankful for!

Thankful Thursday

Many of you who have followed this blog for a while know that we had a rough summer around here.  While taking my son to the hospital I fell in the entry way and broke my leg.  Both my son and I were admitted.  I ended up in emergency surgery to have a rod placed in my leg and my son ended up spending the next 5 weeks in the hospital.

Now 6 months later my leg is fully healed and I can once again run, hop, skip and jump. Simple things like going up and down the stairs, bending over to pick something up and taking a shower are things I used to take for granted.  Now I'm grateful for the little things I am able to do and I have gained much compassion for those who have physical ailments.

As for my son.  If he makes it to school today and tomorrow (which I have no reason to doubt he will) then he will have completed the entire semester without missing a day which is truly miraculous.  He's happier and healthier than he has been in a very long time.

I truly have much to be grateful for this holiday season!
