Thankful Thursday - Have an Attitude of Gratitude

This is not a "new" idea.  Thankful Thursday has been around for years.  Back when I was regularly posting on my personal blog I often put up a Thankful Thursday post. I searched the internet looking for the originator of the idea but it is hosted on so many different blogs I couldn't begin to guess who gets the credit for it.  My personal blog doesn't get posted on anymore but I've been thinking a lot about gratitude lately.  I'm going to be putting up a Thankful Thursday post regularly on this blog.  Sometimes it will be about reading or blogging and other times it will be more personal.

THANKFUL THURSDAY

Today I'm grateful for something reading related.  My Kindle.  I have the cheapest Kindle available and I love it!  I spent the good portion of the day yesterday reading books on my Kindle.  (Merry Christmas to me).

I never really thought the day would come when I would prefer an ereader to print books but I do.  It's so easy to use, easy to read from, easy to hold... I currently have over 500 books on my Kindle.  Technology is amazing.

I love the fact that I can email books directly to it. It's an awesome feature! No need to plug it in to transfer books, you can just email them.  I've heard you can email a PDF file to your Kindle and it will automatically convert it.

There is always something to be grateful for.  What are you thankful for?

I invite you to join me....  Put up your own post, leave a comment or just take a minute to think of something you are grateful for.

Love the Body You’re In
With a belly full of hot cocoa and cookies, I'm planning my New Year's diet makeover and I still have a houseful of chocolate I need to consume. Have any of you ever been on a diet? If you’re like most women the answer is probably, “I start a new one every morning!”
One study found that 86% of women want to lose weight. (i) Really? 86% of us are not happy with our shape? With 66% of Americans overweight (ii), it does make sense that many are struggling to lose those extra pounds. Of course we want to be healthy, but do we really have to be perfect?
If we can drop the desire to look perfect we can take charge of our health and love the body we're in. The really cool thing about embracing your shape and unique beauty is if you feel good about yourself it will be easier to improve your health and lose weight.
Here are a few ideas to help:
1. Bury the scale under your laundry pile - try to focus more on how your clothes are fitting and how you feel. If you want a true indicator of improvement try a fat percentage test or measure yourself regularly.
2. Lift weights in front of a mirror (it’s okay to do this in a sports bra, at least if you’re in your bedroom without your teenagers laughing at you). Watch how your muscles contract and realize that you are a strong, beautiful woman.
3. Don't compare yourself - Everyone has their own strengths. It might be easy for your friend to stay thin, but maybe she couldn't lift her 95-pound ten-year old and carry him to the doctor when he broke his arm (that was a proud moment). Try to compliment and be happy for other people instead of letting that darn jealousy take over. Looking for the best in others will help you feel better about yourself too.
4. Exercise - whenever you allow negativity to creep in, go on a walk or bike ride, turn on some music and dance, drop and do twenty pushups, try some yoga moves. Make yourself move. The endorphins will start dancing with you and you really will feel better. (iii)
5. Fake it until you make it. I know this seems, well, fake. But I promise if you put a smile on your face and pretend you love your body, you can change your attitude and eventually the smile will feel more natural than the frown.
6. Be grateful for the health you've got. Whenever I'm on a run and want to quit I tell myself, "Some people would give anything to be able to run and they can't." Focus on the blessings of being able to move, breathe, and serve your family, neighbors, and those in need with your healthy body.
7. Write down the things you love about your body. If you get a bit depressed about the dimples on your thighs (please tell me someone else has those too) focus instead on how toned your calves look or the fact that your biceps are really responding to all those curls.
I'd love to hear what all of you do to love your body. Please share in the comments.
Thanks,
Cami

Interview
If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
Judy Blume, Ben Affleck, Adam Levine, Bill Clinton and Martin Scorsese

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Peanut Butter n Chocolate from Baskin Robbins!

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Who doesn't love a book about teenage fairies that kick some major booty?

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
Little Women or Tiger Eyes

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
I was born and raised in Southern California. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else...especially in places that snow. I'm such a baby about cold weather! I need my sunshine!

What is your favorite Quote?
"Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it." - Salvador DalĂ

If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play the lead role and why?
Sandra Oh. She's just awesome!

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
As far as Fair Youth goes, I see a little bit of myself in each fairy. I'm slightly awkward like Emylee. I can be quite introspective like Jessamine. I'm a little fiery like Leiko, and I have Reva's guarded personality.

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
I can't wait to see the film version of Les Miserables. I've only waited for its release for 20 years!

What do you do in your free time?
I have three children who are all under the age of five, so I don't have much free time! When I do get some me time, I enjoy going to the movies with my husband or going out to dinner and having a nice, relaxing conversation.

Finish the sentence- one book I wish I had written is....
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. I think its the best Young Adult book from the last 20 years, and I've reread it several times. The characters feel so real...honest and the wistful lead character is filled with so many regrets that it breaks my heart. I always find myself tearing up in the final chapters.

Favorite sport?
I'm a figure skating and gymnastics nut. I also like watching baseball. Go Dodgers!

Print or Ebook?
Print, print, print! Books were made to be held. Pages were made to be turned!

Facebook or Twitter?
Facebook. I'm afraid I've never quite gotten the hang of Twitter. I'm on there, though. @ChristineWriter

Favorite quote from a movie?
"I overreacted." --Bill In "Kill Bill: Volume 2"

Fair Youth: Emylee of Forest Springs

The Fay sisters came to Forest Springs for one reason - me. Me - the girl who never existed. Me - the invisible loner.

Twelve-year-old Emylee Markette has felt invisible her entire life. Then one fateful afternoon, three beautiful sisters arrive in her sleepy New England town and instantly become the most popular girls at Forest Springs Middle School. To everyone's surprise, the Fay sisters befriend Emylee and welcome her into their close-knit circle. Before long, the shy loner finds herself running with the cool crowd, joining the track team and even becoming friends with her lifelong crush. Through it all, though, Emylee's weighed down by nagging suspicions. Why were the Fay sisters so anxious to befriend her? How do they know some of her inner thoughts? What do they truly want from her? When Emylee eventually discovers that her new friends are secretly fairies, she finds her life turned upside down yet again and must make some life-changing decisions. Fair Youth: Emylee of Forest Springs marks the first volume in an exciting new book series.

Waiting on Wednesday - Just One Day by Gayle Forman

Hosted by Breaking the Spine

This week I choose one that will be out really soon.  Just 2 weeks to wait.

Just One Day by Gayle Forman

A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay

When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

Just One Day is the first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!
