Author Interview & Ebook Giveaway: My Boyfriend Merlin by Priya Ardis

Welcome to Author Priya Ardis
Priya Ardis loves books of all kinds--but especially the gooey ones that make your nose leak and let your latte go cold. Her young adult novel, My Boyfriend Merlin, came from a childhood of playing too much She-Ra and watching too much Spock. She started her first book at sixteen, writing in notebooks on long train rides. Her favorite Arthurian piece is the poem The Lady of Shalott by Lord Alfred Tennyson. While reading My Boyfriend Merlin, she recommends pajamas first and a pumpkin spice anything for taste.
A hopeless romantic, she's a longtime member of the Romance Writer's of America.

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Into the future. I would love to know what lies ahead. It’s why I brought Merlin to the future. So that he could too.

If you were a superhero what would your name be?
Wondergirl. I've had this one picked out for awhile! But the real question is—what color tights?

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
To find out if Merlin really can be a superhero and what’s it’s like to date one.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Currently, I am finishing up the next book in the My Merlin series to be released in early April. In My Boyfriend Merlin, Ryan comes a long way but there are plenty of challenges ahead. Book 2, My Merlin Awakening, asks—If you haven’t broken the rules, have you really lived? So stay tuned! Be sure to add it to your To-Be-Read list on Goodreads.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
I started on comic books…yes, I’m a comic book geek. Then I became a full-fledged book lover ever since my parents took me to this cool thing called the “public library.” I picked up this awesome book called “Nancy Drew” and never looked back. In hindsight, my parents were smart to take me to the library. No parent could have afforded my voracious reading habit—which is why I’m fully onboard with the eBook craze.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
A reader told me they loved the book and couldn’t wait for the next one. What could be better?

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
In YA, my favorite book has to be Beauty by Robin McKinley. What a wonderful story for a girl whose way too much into fairy tales. The series that affected me the most, however, has to be Alanna by Tamora Pierce. I love the sword and sorcery bit—hence my own foray into the world of a modern day Merlin.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
I have a playlist! I’m a writer who can’t write without music. If I had to pick one, Merlin’s song is Mr. Brightside by The Killers.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?
A detective! I read way too much Nancy Drew. A long time later I discovered she didn’t get together with Frank Hardy and I had to give up the dream.

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
The Hobbit, Batman, Avengers, and John Carter looks cool.

Write a Haiku about your book
My boyfriend is older.
By a few eons, I guess.
Should I trust him still?

Print or Ebook?
I’m a recent e-Book convert. Since I got the iPad, it was all over. I love the convenience and I’m a voracious reader so the more I can put on there the better.

Chocolate or Vanilla?
Vanilla. I love the classics.

Horror or Romance?
Romance all the way. I’m scared of everything.

Text or Talk?
Text. Let’s me talk without turning off my music!

Favorite quote from a movie?
“Goonies never say die.”

What is you favorite way to spend a rainy day?
Reading a book and drinking tea—I love Earl Grey (so does Merlin!)

My Boyfriend Merlin

If you can't trust your boyfriend, who can you trust?

In this teen Arthurian, 17-year-old student president Arriane, aka Ryan, DuLac just found out her badass biker boyfriend, Matt, is a little older than he was letting on. By a few eons.

In fact, he is really Merlin--the Merlin, King Arthur's Merlin, the greatest wizard who ever lived. But Ryan's not impressed. Tired of being a relationship loser, she'd rather kick his legendary behind.

Sure, the world has been crazy ever since the sword and the stone fell out of the sky like a meteor. But despite gruesome gargoyles, a new world of magic, and the guy driving her crazy, Ryan knows that family is everything. Will Merlin sacrifice hers to save the world? Will she be able to stop him?

  12. @j. barrett Good luck on the giveaway! I haven't seen an Arthurian movie recently, but do you watch BBC's Merlin show? It's a retelling of Merlin (set during in medieval times whereas mine is set today). It's really good :)
