What is one book everyone should read?
What is one book everyone should read?
I love "The Giving Tree", by Shel Silverstein. It is such a simple, sweet book about unconditional love that speaks to everyone regardless of their age.
If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
My Dad was killed in a car accident when I was a baby. I have so many questions that I would love to ask him. Getting acquainted with my Dad would be priceless.
Night owl or early bird?
I am a night owl. Most of my creative juices seem to flow around 2:00 am.

Definitely M&Ms!
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
It is a sweet, simple book that talks about the love that a mother has for her children, but also her love for chocolate.
What inspired you to want to become a writer?
I really want to make a difference in the lives of children. I want to make a child feel special, loved, and happy, even if it is just for a short time by singing or reading to them.
Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
One of my preschooler's moms brings her child to school late and she apologizes, but says, "We were reading your chocolate book. It was such a special time. We read, we sang, we rhymed, and we cuddled and said how very much we loved each other over and over again". She hugged me and said, "Thanks for writing such a precious book". It was exactly the feelings that I had hoped my book would impart.
What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Write about what you know, write about what you have experienced, and write about what you are passionate about.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?
I love music. When I was growing up my older sister was always listening to the radio. Consequently, I knew all the popular songs word for word. I was the little girl who held her hair brush, pretended it was a microphone, and sang with all her heart to a pretend audience. There was not any doubt in my mind. I wanted to grow up to be a famous rock and roll singer.
What's the best advice anyone has ever given you?
If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?
Broccoli!
If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
Life is a Song and Love is the Music!
If you had 24 hours alone how would you spend it?
I would spend it playing "catch-up". The first thing I would do is make a list of what I wanted to accomplish in those 24 hours and then I would commence to checking those things off until I was finished. If I had any time left, I would pop some corn and watch a romantic thriller movie.
Favorite quote from a movie?
"Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out"? From the movie, "What a Girl Wants".
Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate, of course!
This book was originally a song, and inside the back cover of the book, is a CD of Miss Melanie singing the song. When Melanie would tuck her children into bed at night, she made sure they knew how much they were loved. She told them she loved them more than anything – even chocolate! Her children knew she was a chocoholic, so they had no doubt, they knew they were loved.

ReplyDeleteHer song is so sweet and adorable! I was thinking to myself while watching it that she would have been a cool elementary school teacher because she could sing us songs during circle time. Then, I went back through the post and read the interview and discovered she was a preschool teacher! How lucky are her students if she puts on small concerts for them!
