Blog Tour: Book Review - The Royal Treatment by Lindsey Leavitt

The Royal Treatment by Lindsey Leavitt:
Desi Bascomb's job as a princess substitute has gotten a whole lot more glamorous now that she's advanced to Level 2 within the Facade Agency. Magical make-up, roller-skating celebrities, and the chance to see Prince Karl again are just some of the major perks. Not to mention, she's landed the role of Fairy Queen in her school's production of Midsummer's Night Dream (opposite her best friend's crush. Which is a little weird, but at least he wears a donkey head during their kissing scene). Life should be perfect, but Desi can't seem to shake the feeling that there is more going on with the agency's magic than she's told. Like why is this mind-bending power exclusive to royals? Is it possible that there could be a bigger way to make an impact in both parts of her life?

Lindsey Leavitt's Princess for Hire series is so fun.  I loved the first book and was not disappointed with the sequel: The Royal Treatment.  It is a perfect tween read: cute and clean with a great message.

There was some foreshadowing in the first book that I picked up on and was pleased when this story went the direction I thought it would.   Lindsey Leavitt is a great writer.  Her books make me smile and I highly recommend them.

If you are looking for a light, fun, quick read look not further than The Princess for Hire Series!

Blog Tour: Cover Interview - The Royal Treatment by Lindsey Leavitt

Welcome to Author Lindsey Leavitt:

Lindsey Leavitt is a former elementary school teacher and present day writer/mom to three (mostly) adorable little girls. She is married to her high school lab partner and lives in Las Vegas. She is the author of the PRINCESS FOR HIRE series (www.princessforhire.com) and SEAN GRISWOLD'S HEAD.
Visit her on the web at www.lindseyleavitt.com

Cover Interview:

What was your initial reaction when you saw the book cover?
It's not pink!! I LOVE TEAL.

Is this the original cover or were changes made?
This is one of the first covers that I saw, but I know they did an earlier cover that was similar to PRINCESS FOR HIRE, with a compact and different bits and bobbles. They decided that draft could be mistaken for the first book, though, and they wanted to ad a photo of a girl. So the first draft I saw was pretty close to the final.

How much input did you have for the cover for Royal Treatment?
Yes, I had a few notes--the girl on the cover was closer-up, and her strapless dress made her look, um, really strapless, so they set her back more to show that she had clothes on (and personally, I would have put a nice shrug on the girl--not big on a thirteen-year-old showing all that skin). They also tweaked switched the compact to silver, since it matched something that happened in the book.

Is the girl on the cover how you picture Desi to look like?
Sort of? Not really? I picture Desi as pretty, but not fully grown-into her features, still a little more awkward. This girl is clearly a beauty. But what I like is that it's open to interpretation. Is this Desi, or is this Desi as a princess?

Is there something you would change about the cover if you could?
Yeah, coverage. See above :)  (but overall, LOVE. I do believe that blue is my new favorite color).

I love how you covers go together.... pink cover for Princess for Hire, blue for Royal Treatment... what color do you think book 3 in the series will be?
I think I know. Not sure if I can say. Ah well... probably purple, or some shade thereof, which I think will go beautifully with the other colors (and my daughter is excited because her room coincidentally is teal, purple, and pink). I haven't seen any comps yet, though, so we'll see together what happens!

Are You Looking For Books To Review?

I wish I could say yes to every author who approaches me to review their book. Unfortunately there are not enough hours in the day to read as much as I want and with the craziness of my life I'm falling further behind everyday!

When I can't accept a book I like to provide the author with a list of bloggers who are accepting books for review.

If you'd like to be included on the spreadsheet that will be given to authors looking for book reviewers just fill out the form below.

I will share this spreadsheet with authors who are seeking book reviews.  They can check out your site to see if it's a good fit for their book and contact you.

This is a new updated spreadsheet. If you filled out the spreadsheet from a couple months ago please update your information on this one.

Thanks!!

She graduated from Bethel University in 2006 with a degree in Media Communication with minors in both writing and film. Legend of the Oceina Dragon:
Darien Oceina is the youngest son of the Great Dragon Lord of the Water. For years he's loved and cherished Tai Dawson from afar. Tai is a simple, ordinary girl who doesn't even know Darien exists. On his eighteenth birthday, he chooses her as his wife. But there’s one problem: She thinks his choice means she's going to be offered as a sacrifice to the Dragon Lord, but instead, she’s forced to move to his home, far away, to give up her life and be his bride.

When she first sees Darien after the ceremony, she doesn’t expect to feel anything but hatred toward him. The two are struggling with the complications of a new marriage when their nation is attacked by a rival dragon species. Together they learn to love one another while they struggle to stay one step ahead in a game where the prize is their survival.

Interview:

What is one book everyone should read?
Here There Be Dragons by James A. Owen, and not because of my dragon obsession, but because it is so well written and creative!

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Sweet Cream with Butterfingers from Coldstone.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Hashbrowns with cheese. I could live off of those.

Night owl, or early bird?
Neither, I'm definitely a middle of the day kind of person. It's when my brain is the most active and productive.

Skittles or M&Ms?
M&M's all the way.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Because it isn't like anything else you've read.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I've got two other YA series that I'm working on, as well as the rest of the Dragon's Saga. Naturally I'm busy busy!

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Feeling like I'm impacting the lives of other people. I've gotten so many wonderful and surprising comments about my work and how much it means to others.

What is your dream cast for your book?
Landon Liborion would play my lead male and the lead female would be Lucy Hale.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Not a song, but anything done by the wonderfully talented Gavin Mikhail, particularly his song "Catch Your Fall". Here's a youtube link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzbZz_elCfg

What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Keep writing no matter what. It's a craft that improves over time and there's lots to learn. Definitely frustrating, but the pay off is awesome. Don't stop loving what you do.

How did you know you should become an author?
I just can't stop doing it!

Who are your favorite authors of all time?
Stephen King and D. J. Machale.

What's the craziest writing idea you've had?
The one where this boy could make people combust just by talking.

How do you react to a bad review?
One review I laughed at because it was just that stupid, and there was one that hit close to home that made me cry a little. Over all though, I take out the things that are worthwhile and apply them, and ignore the things that aren't.

What do you do in your free time?
Play a lot of video games. A LOT of them. My Playstation is like a part of me. I especially love RPGs like Final Fantasy.

Give us a glimpse into a typical day in your day starting when you wake up till you lie down again.
Wake up. Groan. See how long I can stay in bed until the toddler starts whining to get out of his crib. Necessary getting ready things (bathroom, change clothes, etc.). Necessary getting the baby ready things (diaper change, change clothes, etc.). Get breakfast for us both. Feed the cats. Catch up on emails/twitter feeds. Start writing. Cuddle/tickle break with the baby. Continue writing. More cuddling and tickling and maybe a dance party. More writing. Lunch. More writing. Family naptime. Wake up. Groan again. Watch cartoons and cuddle. Make dinner. Write some more. Catch up with the hubby. Write. Play games/read while the hubby sleeps. Go to bed.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Pop music and teen heartthrobs.
