Welcome to Author Terri Ferran

Terri Ferran grew up in a small Colorado town that offered little in the way of entertainment. She escaped through reading (and later on a Continental Trailways bus), and although the town didn't have a library, she eagerly anticipated the coming of the Bookmobile and would check out stacks of books at a time.
She moved to Utah as a high school senior where she joined the LDS Church and met her husband, Tod. She dreamed of being a writer but took the safe route of becoming a CPA. She finally got brave enough to quit working in the world of numbers to pursue her dream of writing and also to spend more time with her children. Her first book, Finding Faith was published in 2007 and she is excited to be living her dream of writing in real life.
Terri still loves to read, but she can usually be found writing, doing laundry, dishes, running errands, napping, eating chocolate, or exercising (not necessarily in that order).

Interview:
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you? 

A time machine, plutonium for the time machine, and an illustrated manual on how to use the time machine.

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future? 

It depends on when I got stranded on the desert island.

What is one book everyone should read? 

If you are a writer – The 38 Most Common Fiction Writing Mistakes (And How To Avoid Them) by Jack M. Bickham. If you are a reader – Any (or all) of my books!

If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?    

I try to stay away from dead people. I’m not saying I buy into the whole Zombie Apocalypse theory—but why tempt fate?

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?  

German chocolate cake washed down with Diet Coke. (Why do birthdays only come once a year?)

One food you would never eat? 

Pickles! Smell, texture, name—ICK! Pickles are like cucumber zombies. And nothing good can come from messing with zombies.

Skittles or M&Ms?  

I like to mix the two. It’s a fruity, chocolate-y surprise in every bite. It also keeps your children away from your candy.

What inspired you to want to become a writer? 

I’ve always loved books—stories that inspire or merely let the reader escape to another place for a while. I wanted to inspire others to escape!

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published. 

I love, love getting emails from readers that tell me they could identify with the characters and/or experiences. I love those emails so much that sometimes I write emails to myself J

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be? 

Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Except for all the hard chores—and Marilla was kind of crabby. But I think Gilbert Blythe made up for it.

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen? 

Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I started reading it on the bus ride home from school and finished it at 4 a.m.

What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors? 

Read books on the craft of writing. Attend writers’ conferences. Edit. Edit. Edit. And never, ever give up on the dream. (That is one piece of advice cleverly disguised as four!)
