Interview:
When you were little,
what did you want to be when you "grew up"?
I have always wanted to be writer and create characters,
plots and places for others to enjoy reading about the way I always enjoyed books as a
kid—and still do today. I also wanted to be a kindergarten teacher.
Can you see yourself
in any of your characters?
Yes. In "Alfred C. Bogeyman" there is a character,
Sean, who worries all the time about everything, and he is a lot like me. I
tend to be a pessimist and always think of what bad thing might happen if I…
What movie and/or
book are you looking forward to this year?
I am waiting for ParaNorman to come out on video, so I can
buy it. I don't go to the movies, because I like to watch movies in the comfort
of my home. I cannot wait to see this movie, because it looks fun and creepy at
the same time.
How do you react to a
bad review?
My first bad review upset me—I won't lie. However, after
giving it some thought, I realized that not everyone has the same opinion when
it comes to books and movies. What one person may love another may hate, so I
can't please everyone. I do appreciate readers who buy my books, and If they
love it great, but if they don't that is okay too. I'm not perfect, and I can't
please everyone. So, bad reviews are expected , and it's just part of putting
my work out there for the public to read.
If you could meet one
person who has died who would you choose?
I would have loved to meet Ray Bradbury before he died. I am
a big fan.
Any other books in
the works? Goals for future projects?
Always. I am working on another YA short story,
"Mermaid's Kiss" and a another anthology of short stories for adults,
Stories to Wrap Your Mind Around, which
will be released sometime next year. I also have many partial stories and ideas
written in notebooks for future projects.
Pet Peeves?
Oh, I have many, but I'll just mention a few. I do not like
it when people are talking and put the "f" sound at the end of a word
that ends in "th." For example, they may truf, or toof, instead of
truth and tooth. One more—I can't stand
it when people lick their fingers while they eat. It drives me crazy. Use a
napkin!
If you had 24 hours
alone how would you spend it?
I would spend time reading and writing.
Do you prefer a bunch of small
gifts or one big expensive one?
I prefer a bunch of
small gifts. I like to get little
things, and even better something that comes from the giver's heart.
Spontaneity or Planning Ahead?
I have to plan ahead. I am not a spontaneous person at all.
In fact, I am an anxious person, and I need to have plans before I can even
leave the house or start a new project.
Alfred C. Bogeyman
Since his father's deployment, Adrian feels he has to be the
man of the house. So when the boogieman scares his little brother, Sam, every
night, he and his friends, Ralph and Sean, are determined to find the boogieman
and give him a taste of his own medicine. With the help of Socks, Sean's dog,
their search leads them to small cottage behind the park where they encounter
