Author of "Chase Tinker and the House of Magic (The Chase Tinker Series, Book 1)," Malia loves dancing, reading, writing, playing video games on her iPod, watching TV, and chocolate. She also has terrible motion sickness and hates onions. She's always wanted to have the ability to teleport and the power to move things with her mind. Then one night she dreamed she was living in a house filled with magical rooms and the very next day she started throwing ideas together for her Chase Tinker fantasy series, after consulting with her kids, of course. She lives in the Seattle area with her four wild and crazy ferrets. She's currently working on the 4th and last book of her series.

Interview:
Favorite quote from a movie?
"I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking
him to love her." ~ Anna, Notting Hill
If you could have any
superpower, what would you choose?
I'd love to be able to teleport like the characters in my
book. Getting places would be so much quicker (and cheaper).
Write a Haiku about your book.
Unknowing magic
there's no forgiveness for lies
as secrets unfold.
Skittles or M&Ms?
Oh, M&Ms. I can never pass up anything made with chocolate. Plus, the Hershey people were kind enough to monogram them for me. :)

Please tell us in one
sentence only, why we should read your book.
Everyone should read my book because it's filled with fun and magic, adventure and mystery and has awesome, adventurous characters who are not afraid to just go for it.

If you could jump
into a book, and live in that world...which would it be?
Well I'd love to live in the magic house in my Chase Tinker books, but since I can't use that world, then I would pick Harry Potter's world because it would be so cool to actually have the ability to do real magic. Of course, I'd want to be there after Harry killed Voldemort since that crazy guy would ruin all the fun.

If you could travel
in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
I would go back into the past to when my parents were
teenagers and beg them to PLEASE stop smoking.
How did you know you
should become an author?
I knew I should be an author when the desire to write never ever went away no matter what was going on in my life or how many different jobs I had.

Can you see yourself
in any of your characters?
I did give Chase, my main character, a couple of my
personality traits and quirks. He's impatient like I am, and I also gave him
the ability to stand up for himself, which he needs in order to do what he has
to do to save himself and his family. Oh, and he has my hatred of onions and my
suckiness at math too.
Any other books in
the works? Goals for future projects?
I've already finished the 2nd and 3rd books in my Chase Tinker Series and I'm working on the 4th right now. I really love my first book, but I have to admit, the next ones are even better. I've added a couple of great new characters and even more secrets and lies are revealed while the other characters grow and change; some for the better and some not. So much fun! :) I'm also working on a YA Romantic Comedy called 100 Kisses.

Favorite sport?
I've always been horrible at playing sports, but I love
watching football. I'm a huge Seahawks fan.
Horror or Romance?
Definitely romance. If I watch any scary movies, I get very
little sleep for weeks. I'm very wimpy that way.
Tell us your most
rewarding experience since being published.
Just knowing that people are finally reading and enjoying my book has been one of the most awesome, exciting things for me.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
When I was a junior in high
school, I was suspended for fighting. But it wasn't my fault!
How do you react to a
bad review?
You shouldn't react. The best thing to do is ignore it and
realize that everyone has the right to their opinion and that we all can't like
the same things. In fact, that's a line in my book spoken by Chase's and Andy's
grandfather. "We're all entitled to our different likes and dislikes.
Imagine the world if we all liked the same things."
Chase Tinker and the House of Magic
In Chase Tinker's world, magic, lies and secrets can be a
lethal combination...
Thirteen-year-old Chase Tinker can't understand why he has the power to
move things with his mind. Besides that, his dad has been missing for over a
year, causing his mom to be too upset to pay much attention to her sons, so now
he's been busted for shoplifting. As if this isn't enough to worry about, his
younger brother Andy suddenly has the ability to stop time. Can things get
any crazier? Chase thinks.
Then, a grandfather they thought to be long dead arrives at their door.
He wants Chase and Andy to come visit him for the summer so they can learn
about their supernatural heritage and why they have magical powers in the first
place.
The boys soon find out that Grandfather, along with their cousin Janie,
lives on a remote island in the middle of Puget Sound in an out-of-this-world
house where fantastic magic can be found in practically every
room, stairway and corridor. Chase can't believe their dad has been keeping so
much from them.
It's an even bigger shock when Chase learns that all their magic is
controlled by a very powerful and mysterious Relic in the attic, and if
anything happens to this relic, every bit of Tinker magic will be lost forever.
He's even more disturbed when he learns his family has a dark and powerful
enemy that is determined to steal all their magic, their house and their relic.
Now Chase must find a way to stop these evil beings, while at the same
time figuring out what has happened to his dad, unraveling even more Tinker
lies and secrets and not letting on that he has a huge crush on the
housekeeper's daughter.
