Top 10 Book Boyfriends of 2011

Confessions of a Bookaholic, A Life Bound by Books, Fiktshun & Two Chicks on Books have put together a year end Top 10 of 2011 event.

Today's Top 10 is "Top 10 Book Boyfriends of 2011"!

This was tough.  Having to choose from only the books I read in 2011 made it difficult to narrow this list down.  Many of my all time favorites couldn't make this list because I didn't read the book in 2011.

#1
Spots 1 to 4 most definately go to characters in Marcia Lynn McClure's Books!  Maxim, Trevon, Gentry & Justice - I couldn't begin to choose which one I love the most so we'll just give them all the top stop on this list.

#2
Alex (although Julian is giving him a run for his money in Pandemonium)

#3 Ash (I loved Puck too)

#4 Sam (Loved Cole too)

#5 Daniel (& Talbot too)

#6 Akiva

#7 Strell

#7 Sonny

#9 Alden

#10 Archer

Runners Up
Tamani

I love both Xander & Ky for different reasons.

#BIR2010 - Book Giveaway: Princess for Hire by Lindsey Leavitt + Interview

Other than my grand prize giveaway which will happen tomorrow this is my final book giveaway and author interview for BIR2010.

Welcome to Author Lindsey Leavitt!

BIO:
Lindsey Leavitt is a former elementary school teacher and present-day writer/mom to three (mostly) adorable little girls. She is married to her high-school lab partner and lives in Las Vegas, Nevada.
http://www.lindseyleavitt.com/

INTERVIEW:

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Could I go Back to the Future? Because I already have all three movies memorized, and I think I would make a nice addition to the cast.

If not, past because I'm a know-it-all and I would love to drop things. Electricity? Oh, it's really rather simple, Thomas. Flight? Here, allow me, Orville.

Not that I understand how these marvels work, but I could bring the E-F encyclopedia to help.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
1. My husband. I would say my whole family, but I have little girls, and I wouldn't want them to get hurt. Plus, I've bathed them after beach trips, and it isn't fun. My husband could take care of himself/fan me with a palm frond.
2. A fridge that doesn't need to be plugged in and fills with whatever goodies I want
3. An airplane? With a pilot who doubles as a butler? And if I can't have that, then radio coconuts.
Oh, and fourth. A eternal-battery computer. Because island survival with cute husband and magical fridge makes for a great memoir.

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Mind reading, hands down. Mind reading that I can turn off though, so I don’t cheat on tests and don’t know what the other driver is really thinking when I accidentally cut them off. But I DID always want to know what boys were thinking… er, particularly about me. And if I were in combat with Mr. Super Jump Man or something, I could always know what his next move was. Actually, it’s probably safe to guess Mr. Super Jump Man’s next move would involve, you know, jumping, so never mind on that one.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Cake. Pie. Cookies. Breakfast is the only meal you can justify eating sugar (Because, seriously, donuts? Not much different, folks)

Is there anything you need in order to write?
I need a writing tool, preferably a computer. And rewards. I usually eat a piece of chocolate with diet pepsi whenever I meet a chapter or revision goal. I can go into sugar shock during a tight deadline, but having that little piece of candy on my desk motivates me, even when nothing else does.

Night owl, or early bird?
NIGHT OWL. I get my best writing done late at night, and I'm always a zombie in the morning. Oh. Those two things may be correlated.

Princess for Hire by Lindsey Leavitt:

When an immaculately dressed woman steps out of an iridescent bubble and asks you if you'd like to become a substitute princess, do you

a) run

b) faint

c) say Yes!

For Desi Bascomb, who's been longing for a bit of glamour in her Idaho life, the choice is a definite C--that is, once she can stop pinching herself. As her new agent Meredith explains, Desi has a rare magical ability: when she applies the ancient Egyptian formula "Royal Rouge," she can transform temporarily into the exact lookalike of any princess who needs her subbing services. Dream come true, right?

Well, Desi soon discovers that subbing involves a lot more than wearing a tiara and waving at cameras. Like, what do you do when a bullying older sister puts you on a heinous crash diet? Or when the tribal villagers gather to watch you perform a ceremonial dance you don't know? Or when a princess's conflicted sweetheart shows up to break things off--and you know she would want you to change his mind?

In this hilarious, winning debut, one girl's dream of glamour transforms into something bigger: the desire to make a positive impact. And an impact Desi makes, one royal fiasco at a time.

UPCOMING BOOKS:

THE ROYAL TREATMENT, sequel to PRINCESS FOR HIRE, will be out May 3, 2011

SEAN GRISWOLD'S HEAD
Coming March 1, 2011 from Bloomsbury

Payton Gritas needs a focus object—something to focus her emotions on after discovering that her father’s been hiding his multiple sclerosis. Her guidance counselor suggested something inanimate but Payton chooses the thing she stares at during class: Sean Griswold’s head. They’ve been linked since third grade (Griswold-Gritas, it’s an alphabetical order thing), but she’s never really noticed him before.

Payton starts stalking—er, focusing on—Sean’s big blond head, and her research quickly grows into something a little less scientific and a lot more crush-like. As Payton gets inside Sean’s head, Sean finds a way into her guarded heart. But obsessing over Sean won’t fix Payton’s fear of her dad’s illness. For that, she’ll have to focus on herself.

#BIR2010 - Book Giveaway: Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meaney

Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meaney
Published October 5, 2010 by Little Brown Books for Young Readers

Some vampires are good. Some are evil. Some are faking it to get girls. Awkward and allergic to the sun, sixteen-year-old Finbar Frame never gets the girl. But when he notices that all the female students at his school are obsessed with a vampire romance novel called Bloodthirsty, Finbar decides to boldly go where no sane guy has gone before-he becomes a vampire, minus the whole blood sucking part. With his brooding nature and weirdly pale skin, it's surprisingly easy for Finbar to pretend to be paranormal. But, when he meets the one girl who just might like him for who he really is, he discovers that his life as a pseudo-vampire is more complicated than he expected. This hilarious debut novel is for anyone who believes that sometimes even nice guys -without sharp teeth or sparkly skin - can get the girl.

#BIR2010 - Book Giveaway: The Hourglass Door & The Golden Spiral by Lisa Mangum

The Hourglass Door by Lisa Mangum:
His past. Her future. Can love bring them together in time?Abby's senior year of high school is textbook perfect: She has a handsome and attentive boyfriend, good friends, good grades, and plans to attend college next year. But when she meets Dante Alexander, a foreign-exchange student from Italy, her life suddenly takes a different turn. He's mysterious, and interesting, and unlike anyone she's ever met before. Abby can't deny the growing attraction she feels for him. Nor can she deny the unusual things that seem to happen when Dante is around. Time behaves differently when they are together - traveling too fast or too slow or sometimes seeming to stop altogether.
When the band Zero Hour performs at the local hangout, Abby realizes that there's something dangerous about the lead singer, Zo, and his band mates, Tony and V. Oddly, the three of them are also from Italy and have a strange relationship to Dante. They also hold a bizarre influence over their audience when performing. And Abby's best friend, Valerie, is caught in their snare. Dante tells Abby the truth of his past: he once worked for Leonardo Da Vinci, helping to design and build a time machine. When Dante was falsely implicated as a traitor to his country, he was sent through the machine more than five hundred years into the future as punishment. As the past and the present collide, Abby learns that she holds a special power over the flow of time itself. She and Dante must stop Zo from opening the time machine's door and endangering everyone's future. More than one life is at stake and Abby's choice could change everything.

The Golden Spiral by Lisa Mangum:
His eyes. His touch. His kiss. Dante was unlike anyone Abby had ever met. Now he’s gone, and Abby will do anything to get him back . . .
The hourglass door has closed behind Dante, sending him back in time to hunt down Zo, Tony, and V. Abby knows that Dante, as a Master of Time, is the only one who can stop them from destroying time itself. She also knows that he will need her help. But almost immediately, things start to change, and Abby’s worst fears are realized when Zo begins targeting her past specifically.
As Abby’s world fractures around her, she must face a terrible truth: either Dante didn’t make it through the door, or he is lost forever. So with Dante’s blueprints in hand, she begins construction on a new door, a new time machine that will either save Dante—or doom him.
With each new change that ripples into her present, Abby s life continues to spiral out of control. Her relationships with Jason, Natalie, and even her family are threatened to the breaking point—and beyond. Zo’s power is greater than Abby ever imagined, but as she struggles to free Dante, she receives help from an unexpected—and unlikely—ally.

#BIR2010 - Book Giveaway: The Fablehaven Series by Brandon Mull

One of my family's absolute favorite book series is the Fablehaven Series by Brandon Mull.  From my 8 year old on up to me we all love this series!  I can't even count the number of times I've checked the books and audiobooks out of the library.  We almost always have at least one of the titles checked out.  The final book in the series was released in 2010.

Fablehaven by Brandon Mull
Books in the New York Times bestselling Fablehaven series have more than one million copies in print and have been translated into eighteen languages worldwide.

Fablehaven is a secret nature preserve protecting the beings of myth and legend from the outside world. The current caretaker, Stan Sorenson, describes it as "a refuge for mystical creatures". Those who live in this large sanctuary, mortal and magical, must abide by a treaty of rules. The most common rules are focused upon "the law of the harvest" or "the law of retribution" meaning, you reap what you sow. If this law in the treaty is broken, you lose the magical protection it provides, allowing for retaliation, which is essentially what drives the plot through the first book. There also exist magical borders that keep most mystical creatures within the preserve, but out of certain domains. The caretaker's house and grounds are within one of these protective boundaries. However, some of these borders dissolve on certain nights, allowing frightening creatures to roam free on the grounds, one of which - Midsummer Eve - occurs in the first book.

There are 5 books in the Fablehaven Series:

Fablehaven (Fablehaven, #1)
Fablehaven
Rise of the Evening Star (Fablehaven, #2)
Rise of the Evening Star
Grip of the Shadow Plague (Fablehaven, #3)
Grip of the Shadow Plague
Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary (Fablehaven, #4)

Keys to the Demon Prison (Fablehaven, #5)

If you have not yet read this series I highly recommend it to you.

#BIR2010 - Book Giveaway: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner
By Stephenie Meyer
Published by Little Brown Books for Young Readers
Released June 5, 2010
http://stepheniemeyer.com/

Fans of The Twilight Saga will be enthralled by this riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits.

In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.

Bree Tanner can barely remember life before she had uncannily powerful senses, superhuman reflexes and unstoppable physical strength. Life before she had a relentless thirst for blood... life before she became a vampire.

All Bree knows is that living with her fellow newborns has few certainties and even fewer rules: watch your back, don't draw attention to yourself and, above all, make it home by sunrise or die. What she doesn't know: her time as an immortal is quickly running out.

Then Bree finds an unexpected friend in Diego, a newborn just as curious as Bree about their mysterious creator, whom they know only as "her". As they come to realize that the newborns are pawns in a game larger than anything they could have imagined, Bree and Diego must choose sides and decide whom to trust. But when everything you know about vampires is based on a lie, how do you find the truth?
