Author Interview & Book Giveaway: Warped by Maurissa Guibord

Welcome to debut Author Maurissa Guibord!

Bio:

Before beginning her writing career Maurissa Guibord worked slinging pizzas, alphabetizing things and practicing medicine. Now she writes teen fiction for people who love the same kind of stories she does: mysterious, romantic and with a touch of humor. Her short mystery fiction, published in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine has been nominated for the Agatha Award. She lives on the coast of Maine with her mysterious cat, romantic husband and three kids who make her laugh. Her debut novel, Warped, was published on January 11, 2011 by Delacorte Press.

Interview:

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
I would go back to the past. So many novels that I've loved have historical settings- so I'd been fascinated to see what those times were really like. I think I would prefer to leave the future unknown- I can stay optimistic about it that way!

If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, Arthur Conan Doyle, Lucille Ball and Jane Austen

If you were a superhero what would your name be?
I think I would actually be a supervillain called Procrastinator X. And I would always be planning to conquer the world...um, tomorrow.

Is there anything you need in order to write? (ie Chocolate, quiet, music)
I really need quiet to work. I've always wished I could write with music- and I do find music inspiring- but I just can't write while listening, it's too distracting.

Night owl, or early bird?
Early bird, with coffee.

One food you would never eat?
Death before lima beans has long been my motto.

Skittles or M&Ms?
M&M'S!!!

Favorite Cartoon?
Scooby-Doo. But the old, classic one. Not with the creepy puppy, and not the new one.

How do you react to a bad review?
I try to listen to it like I would a critique- so if there is something constructive there- I can use it to become a better writer. And then I try to forget it and move on.

What is your favorite book that has been made into a movie?
Pride and Prejudice. I love the BBC Colin Firth version.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
I went out to dinner with my husband and three kids. It was awesome!

Write a haiku about your book.
WARPED
Silver thread dangles
Spellbound, the unicorn waits
One touch unravels

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Time-travel, a hot English nobleman trapped in a tapestry and unicorns... need I say more?

How would you describe the target audience for you book? How would you classify your book (which genre)?
I would say teens that like fantasy and adventure- and a touch of romance are my audience. WARPED is a paranormal romance.

Warped by Maurissa Guibord:

Tessa doesn't believe in magic. Or Fate. But there's something weird about the dusty unicorn tapestry she discovers in a box of old books. She finds the creature woven within it compelling and frightening. After the tapestry comes into her possession, Tessa experiences dreams of the past and scenes from a brutal hunt that she herself participated in. When she accidentally pulls a thread from the tapestry, Tessa releases a terrible centuries old secret. She also meets William de Chaucy, an irresistible 16th-century nobleman. His fate is as inextricably tied to the tapestry as Tessa's own. Together, they must correct the wrongs of the past. But then the Fates step in, making a tangled mess of Tessa's life. Now everyone she loves will be destroyed unless Tessa does their bidding and defeats a cruel and crafty ancient enemy.
