Book Giveaway & Author Interview: Manitou The Sky People Saga by Lexus Luke

Welcome to Author Lexus Luke

Bio:

Born in a U.S. Army hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, I moved around a lot growing up as a military brat. After graduating first in my class from the School of Journalism at the University of Colorado in Boulder, I worked as a Creative Services producer at TV stations in Omaha, Denver and Colorado Springs.

Penning an award-winning screenplay was my first real foray into the world of fiction. My debut novel, Manitou The Sky People Saga, is a young adult fantasy garnering positive reviews from readers. It's available at Amazon in Kindle format, at BN.com in Nook format and at Smashwords in multiple formats.

A cat lover, and avid knitter and crocheter, I live, with my husband, in beautiful, story-inspiring Colorado.

Interview:

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
I'd like to correct some things I've done in the past, especially change things that profoundly hurt people.

If you were a superhero what would your name be?
Plotterie. I love good twisty, fast-paced story lines.

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Ah. I wrote about this on my blog. The power to control time would be my choice. The ability to speed up time, slow it down or turn it back would be super awesome.

Night owl, or early bird?
Early bird.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Not to sound corny, but because it's really, really good, and I hope readers enjoy the characters' story as much as I enjoyed telling it.

Any other books in the works?
The characters in the Sky People Saga are telling me that it will take at least four more books to tell their story completely. Hmmm, that makes me sound like a crazy author, doesn't it? Seriously, though, book two is plotted on paper, and books three and four are bouncing around in my head.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
Nothing really. Again, not to sound corny, but I think I was born a storyteller. My plan was to go to film school straight out of high school. Life took a twist and that didn't happen. Still, after going to CU-Boulder's Journalism School, I ended up writing for a living in local TV stations. I dabbled in fiction with a couple of screenplays (one won a major screenplay award) before novelwriting.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Having readers tell me that I'm the next J.K. Rowling. They might just be pulling my leg! Still, it feels good to imagine that my work is that good!

What is your dream cast for your book?
Though the characters played their scenes in my head as I wrote, they didn't resemble well-known actors. The heroine, Wray Sky, is 15, very blonde and pale with striking sky blue eyes. Wray's sweetheart, Kanaan Lykota, is Ute Indian - think a young Michael Greyeyes. Thought, I clearly see Chaske Spencer as a character in book two in the saga,Theoi, that I'm writing now.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Secrets by OneRepublic. Wray sung the song in my head every time she came across a new secret she had to keep. Yes, LOL, that's another indicator that I'm one of those crazy authors. It's kind of eerie that One Republic is a Colorado band and the Secrets video was shot in Denver. Okay, not all that eerie, I guess.

If you could be one of the Greek Gods, which would it be and why?
Funny you should ask. The Titans and their troublesome Olympian offspring, join the Sky People Saga in Theoi, book two.

Manitou:
When her adoptive parents were murdered a year ago in New York City, fifteen-year-old Wray Sky moved home to Manitou Springs, Colorado to live with her Ute Indian great-grandmother. Wray’s faith in all that is logical gets rocked to the core by bones that never die, her sudden mind bending abilities and the realization that her parents' murder may not have been as random as everyone thought. With support from sweetheart, Kanaan, and best friend, Amaya, Wray faces danger from unknown sources and ultimately discovers that she isn’t who, or what, she thinks she is.
