Interview:
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
To not need sleep. IMAGINE how much I could get done!!
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Because I have written several swoon-worthy boys, AND friends turning into something much bigger is my favorite kind of love story.
Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Wonderwall by Oasis (yes, I know it's old). It's played in the book, and it killed me to not be able to use the lyrics.
What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Make sure you're still having fun. There are parts of writing and editing and publishing that aren't as fun, but make sure, on the whole, that you're enjoying what you're doing. And that each person writes in their own style, and their own pace, and to focus on YOU and your writing, rather than that of your peers.
What is your favorite Quote?
Try a little harder to be a little better - Hinckley
I probably recite this to myself every day.
Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
I see myself in ALL of my characters. Good, bad, ugly, pretty . . . there's something of ME in all of them, whether I want to admit it or not. Also - I make sure to put a few "real" things or stories from my life into each of my books. Little things - my love of Crown Burger is shared by Leigh. There will always be SOMETHING, you can check my blog for the rest of them.
If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
The Insane Adventures and Massive Ramblings of Jolene Perry
The Next Door Boys
Leigh Tressman has been known as lots of things - the girl who sings, the girl who sews, Jaron's little sister, and last year, the girl with cancer. With her body still recovering from her cancer treatments, she's determined to be independent and convinces her parents to let her follow her overprotective brother to BYU.
With an ever-expanding line of young men ready to be in love with her - not to mention physical frustrations and spiritual dilemmas - Leigh almost misses the opportunity to be with the man who has been quietly falling in love with her since they met. The Next Door Boys proves that even with (or maybe in spite of) independence, love can be found in unexpected, but delightful places.
The AUTHOR'S favorite three things:
1. I wrote a Mormon guy whose arms are covered in tattoos, works in a bar, and plays the guitar.
2. I love the relationship between Leigh and her big brother.
3. Leigh is a girl who has such a good sense of life and death and all the big things, but when it comes to guys, she's clueless. SO fun to write :D
