Book Summary:
Calla has always welcomed war.
But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping Ansel safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is.
First off this far too adult in nature to be a young adult book in my opinion.
Skip this paragraph if you don't want a spoiler. I was extremely annoyed that after sleeping with one character Callah was then making out with the other one while in nothing but a towel and who knows how far that would have gone if they weren't interrupted. This book should have been cleaned up or marketed only to adults.
Thanks to a disgruntled reader who started her ranting review I can't believe Andrea Cremer.... I knew some of what was coming in the storyline. I debated whether to just skip the final book in this series but decided I wanted to know how the story ended. I didn't really love the ending. I was actually unsatisfied with it.
I do think the way Andrea writes is well done. She drew me back into a story I didn't like and kept me reading to the end. I just didn't like where she went with her story line.

I'm really annoyed with the turn this series took. I've never seen a series start as YA and turn into an adult series with no warning to readers that it is no longer appropriate for the original audience. Not to mention Cremer's lazy solution to the love triangle problem. Such a shame because I really liked Nightshade.

Truly Bookish
I agree she took the easy way out and the character never took any responsiblity for her choices :(
DeleteI absolutely LOVED Nightshade but after that, this series fell apart. I agree totally with your review. Cremer is a good author but she definitely let this one go. Hopefully she makes up for it with her next book.
ReplyDeleteI have not read any of this series; my little sister did read the first book but said that over all she was annoyed with the book by the ending and did not want to read the others. I will probably pick the series up eventually and see if I think the same. Lol
ReplyDeleteNods head in agreement with you about this series. THe series started off fine , but I agree it went into adult territory . I didn't like the ending and I knew that one of the teams would be upset. She is an okay writer but I am on the fence with reading more of her work since then ending stunk.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read book 2 or 3 yet (I do plan on it), but if you market a book as a young adult novel, keep it a young adult novel!
ReplyDeleteI would like to see more sex in YA. It's human nature, nothing to be ashamed of. I'd rather my teens read about consensual sex than google porn.
ReplyDeleteYes, Kalasyn, at least they're wrecking their lives with mental porn instead of visual porn, since the end result is SO different.
