Welcome to Author Kelly Oram
Kelly Oram wrote her first novel at age fifteen–a fan
fiction about her favorite music group, The Backstreet Boys, for which family
and friends still tease her. She's obsessed with reading, talks way too much,
and loves to eat frosting by the spoonful. She lives outside of Phoenix,
Arizona with her husband and four children.
Interview:
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Flight or telekinesis
What
is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Butter
Pecan
Please
tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Because I worked really hard on it, and sharing it with
you would make me happy.
Any
other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I have a paranormal romance entitled Chameleon (the
first in a 4 book series) releasing next summer, and I am currently working on
the sequel to Being Jamie Baker. I have a lot scheduled for the next couple
years with these two series. I’m not sure what will be after that. I think most
of my future projects will usually be sci-fi/fantasy but I’m sure I’ll have the
occasional contemporary thrown in there as well.
Is
there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your
characters?
Kyle and Val do indeed have a theme song.
It’s “Beating Heart Baby” by Head Automatica. They are also the band I always
pictured Kyle’s band Tralse sounding like.
What's
one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Read! As much as you can, as often as you can. I’m a
firm believer of learning through osmosis.
Who
are your favorite authors of all time?
Meg
Cabot, Sarah Dessen, Kelley Armstrong, John Green, Simone Elkeles, Jennifer L.
Armentrout… I could go on forever!
Can
you see yourself in any of your characters?
Definitely.
Not any one completely, but each of my characters have inherited a trait or two
from me.
What's
the best advice anyone has ever given you?
How
about the best advice I wish someone
had given me? When you’re about to have a baby, EAT before you go to the
hospital! It may be days before they let you have real food again!
What
movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
Where do I start? I’m always waiting for the next
Jennifer L. Armentrout book—it doesn’t matter which one. Both Opal and Deity
are going to kill me with the waiting.
What
was your favorite children's book?
Don’t
Let the Pigeon Drive The Bus by Mo Willems. I didn’t discover this one until I
started reading to my kids, but it’s by far my favorite children’s book!
What's
your favorite season/weather?
In
Arizona we have two seasons: Beautiful & Melt-your-face-off-hot. I prefer
the first.
Favorite
music?
Rock. All kinds. Alternative, indie,
punk, hard, classic… I will admit I have a special soft spot for the 90’s
alternative rock.
What
is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I was so shy growing up that my teachers would request
conferences with my parents because they were concerned about me. Um, yeah… I’m
pretty sure that would shock people now because if anything I’m too outgoing
for my own good and can never seem to stop talking.
V is for Virgin
When Val Jensen gets dumped for her decision to stay a virgin until marriage, the nasty breakup goes viral on YouTube, making her the latest internet sensation.
After days of ridicule from her peers, Val starts a school-wide campaign to rally support for her cause. She meant to make a statement, but she never dreamed the entire nation would get caught up in the controversy.
As if becoming nationally recognized as “Virgin Val” isn’t enough, Val’s already hectic life starts to spin wildly out of control when bad boy Kyle Hamilton, lead singer for the hit rock band Tralse, decides to take her abstinence as a personal challenge.
How can a girl stay true to herself when this year’s Sexiest Man Alive is doing everything in his power to win her over?
V is for Virgin is scheduled to be released on December 11, 2012.
For those who might wonder about content based on the title - The book has a great overall message and promotes good strong moral values. For a book all about sex, there's not anything even close to a sex scene in it, but because of the nature of the topic there is a lot of innuendo/sexual humor and some name calling. Appropriate for ages 14 and up.
