I Am Number Four hooked me from the first chapter. Actually I was probably hooked during the prologue. This is great young adult science fiction. Filled with lots of great characters including evil aliens, powerful heroes, a beautiful girl, Pittacus Lore's book was a page turner for me.
Pittacus Lore? Seemed liked a pseudonym and after reading the book there was no question it was. A google search of "Who is Pittacus Lore?" showed that I Am Number Four was written by team-writers James Frey & Jobie Hughes.
Although I know my 12 year old would love this book I'm not allowing him to read it yet. There is quite a bit of language in it. Perhaps it really stood out to me because I was listening to the audio version instead of reading. The narrator is fabulous but I literally jumped a couple times as obscenities were shouted in my ear.
There is a movie being released in February 2011 which I'll definitely watch. Looking forward to the sequel The Power of Six due out in 2011. There are supposed to be six books in the series.
Content: Lots of language, no "f bombs" but just about everything else. Also quiet a bit of violence.

You know what's funny? I wanted to do an author interview with Jobie Hughes on this one, but they're on publicity lockdown because the marketing strategy is around Pittacus Lore haha awesome, eh?
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts were quite similar on this book though, and I have to add that I thought Sarah's character felt flat. Other than that though, I really enjoyed it. Great review!
I've been intrigued by this ever since I heard about it! Excited to know there's a movie and a sequel. Now, I just have to get this one read!

ReplyDeleteI saw the trailer for the movie and upon research found out it was previously a book. I immediately order it on my nook. Then I was a CNA on the night shift at a nursing home with quite a bit of time on my hands. I found it hard to put down when the call lights went off. Hard to sleep when I got home. Obviously I finished it in no time it was very intriguing. The ending was awesome but a cliff hanger!! It was then that I found out I was going to have to wait 9 more months for The Power of Six!!!! I have now read that too with the same enthusiasm and don't know when to expect the next installment!!!
