Author Interview & Ebook Giveaway: The Perfect Rose by Felicia Rogers

Welcome to Author Felicia Rogers.

Bio:
Felicia Rogers, born and raised in the southern part of the United States, is a Christian wife and mother.   She is just your average, ordinary woman, with a side interest-- writing.
For eleven years, every waking moment of her life was consumed with changing diapers, wiping noses, and kissing scrapes.  But now that her children have grown and she enjoys a modicum of freedom, in addition to taking care of hearth and home, she writes!  She enjoys adding a flavor of realism and humor to her all too real romance stories.  For what is love without a little laughter!

Interview:

Q. Night owl, or early bird?
A. Neither!  I can’t keep my eyelids open past ten-thirty at night, so I’m definitely not a night owl.  And I wouldn’t get up in the mornings if my husband hadn’t already brewed the coffee!  In the end, I do get up early in the morning, generally somewhere between four-thirty and five-thirty a.m.  By doing this I have time to write or edit before my children come crawling out of bed.

Q. What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
A. My favorite story from childhood was Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White.  Mostly because it is the first novel I remember reading all the way through!  When I was a teen my father gave me over 200 Harlequin romance novels for Christmas.  I spent most days reading, sometimes consuming two novels a day!  I read so quickly I can’t remember the title of one novel I read! So I guess for the teen years I would have to say anything romance.

Q. Give us a glimpse into a typical day in your day starting when you wake up till you lie down again.
A. A typical day for me starts between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m.  I rise, do a Bible reading, and get to work writing.  I write until about 7:00 to 7:30 when it is time to check email.  After which time I workout, feed my children, all the while preparing them for school.  I homeschool and our work starts around 9:00 a.m.  Sometimes I squeeze in a few more hours of writing in the afternoon but oft times the rest of the day is filled with promoting, if I’m lucky, or if I’m not, it’s filled with regular activities like laundry, dishes, cooking, and cleaning.

Q. If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
A.  I think if someone took time to write about me in a book, the title would have to be Really?  Most people think I’m just a little crazy for getting up early to write, but I enjoy it.  Otherwise I would do it!

Q.  What do you do in your free time?
A.  Free time?  What’s that?  No seriously, if I get free time I enjoy reading, crocheting, listening to music, playing tennis, and a variety of other very ordinary activities.

Q. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
A. If I was stranded on the desert island the first thing I would want would be TP.  I couldn’t live without toilet paper. I would request a commode as well but then I might have to get rid of one of my other wants.
Next would be matches.  This way I would have warmth as well as a way to cook food.  Last but not least, Chocolate!  I think this is self explanatory.

Q. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
A. I would pick the powers Kayla Silverfox has in the Wolverine Origins movie.  In the film, Silverfox has what is called ‘tactile hypnosis’.  This means she controls people as long as she is touching them.  This would be the most awesome power a mother could have!  Imagine no more arguing.  Just by the power of a calm touch you would be obeyed.  If only…*sigh*

Q. Which authors have most influenced you, how?
A. One of the authors that have influenced me the most is Francine Rivers.  Her honesty about her conversion from the secular writing world to the world of inspirational writing was very interesting and moving.  She was able to keep it ‘clean’ and still succeed.

Q. What is one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
 A. Every time I’m asked to give advice to new or aspiring authors I always say the same thing, don’t give up!  Patience (although I have a limited supply of this) is the name of the game.

Q. Any other books in the works?  Goals for future projects?
A. Currently I’m seeking publication on a chick lit book—I call it romantic comedy.  I’m also seeking publication on an inspirational historical and an inspirational contemporary.  I’m also in the early writing stages for the sequel of my paranormal romance, The Key.  My hope is to find an agent/publisher and be on every Wal-Mart shelf.  Lofty goals, high idea, but we all need a dream.

Q. Pet Peeves?
A. Now this could take awhile…  I guess I start with the basics.  I can’t stand the cabinet doors to remain open.  I don’t like it when the lights are left on and no one is in the room.  I hate to see a drawer that it’s closed and has clothes hanging out of it.  I don’t like open closet doors.  Hmm…will stop there for now.

Q. Skittles or M&Ms?
A. For me this is a trick question.  Why you ask?  Well I love M&Ms more out of the two because, of well, CHOCOLATE.  But since one of my children has an allergy to peanuts and all M&M products are made around peanuts, I’m no longer able to eat M&Ms.  So I guess will go with Skittles.

Q. When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
A. When I was young, I wanted to be an astronaut.  Then of course I wanted to be a fighter pilot so I could shoot down aliens (clearly a product of me watching too many movies—but they make it look so cool!).  I wanted to be a singer, an actor, and an interior designer.

Q. Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
 A. I currently have a novel that just went into print, and I was lucky enough to be allowed to place it at a used bookstore.  While there shopping, the owner called out to me and asked me to meet one of her customers.  It was a young girl who was purchasing my novel.  She told her grandpa that she had been looking at it for some time and that she wanted it for her birthday.  I felt ten feet tall!

The Perfect Rose:
Abandoned by his wife and left to raise a child alone, Caleb Reed falls short of the ideal work-from-home dad. He needs a woman to help him, in every sense of the word. At the suggestion of a friend, Caleb agrees to hire Ariel Lauren on a trial basis.
As an orphan, Ariel has more issues than just how to make it on her on. Yes, she needs the money that Caleb offers her, but more than anything she finds she desires his love. One calamity after another befalls her and jeopardizes her new job and her chance at having a family. But through it all, Caleb is by her side, his gruff exterior threatening to melt in the face of their shared attraction. Will they decide to continue life alone or will the magic of Valentine's Day bring them together?
