Welcome to Author M. Leighton.
Bio:
M. Leighton is a native of Ohio, but she relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: writing fiction. Four of Michelle's novels can now be found on Amazon, as well as several other sites. She's currently working on sequels, though her mind continues to churn out new ideas, exciting plots and quirky characters. Pick one up and enjoy a wild ride through the twists and turns of her vivid imagination.
Interview:
If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Definitely the past. Knowing what I know now, I'd do all the right things. Of course, then I'd probably be completely boring and one-dimensional:)
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I would want to fly. Fast. Like supersonic fast. That would be awesome! You could go anywhere in the world for free and get the best take-out ever.
Night owl, or early bird?
Neither and yet both. I love to stay up late, but I feel like my day is wasted if I sleep in. What I normally refer to myself as is "tired."
Skittles or M&Ms?
M&Ms. I'm a chocoholic all the way. I'm convinced that all food can be improved by melting a Hershey bar over it.
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
All my books are detail-rich, romantic and end happily.
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
My plan over the next several months is to get out sequels to all four of my current books. I figure it will probably take me until Halloween or so and then I'm working on my new project for Christmas. Sticking to that plan will be hard, but I'm prepared to focus. Already, I'm making threats toward myself when I start mentally developing storylines for something new. I make notes and then walk away. I am strong like ox:)
Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
The feedback of happy readers. It is impossible to describe how wonderful it feels to hear that someone fell in love with one of your characters or was brought to tears by a particularly emotional scene. It's...it's...well, it's amazing!
What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
Cinderella
Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Alive by Avalon would be the theme for The Reaping. I couldn't get permission to use it for my book trailer, but it's the one I wanted.
If you could choose only one time period and place to live, when and where would you live and why?
Probably 1800s England. I grew up reading Johanna Lindsey and I would love to have lived and loved back then.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?
A lawyer. I was a strange child:)
Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
Strangely, I think I transfer a little piece of myself into ALL my characters. Whether it's some idiosyncrasy or some dream feature or talent or trait, or some attribute of the perfect guy, there is something of me in them all.
What's the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Don't sweat the small stuff.
Hidden talent?
An excellent impersonation of both Donald Duck and Droopy Dog.
Favorite Food?
Pizza
Favorite Candy?
Red Hots
Nickname?
Shelly Belly and Skinny Minnie. Those were childhood names. Now they'd probably be something more like Jelly Belly and Minnie Moose.
How do you react to a bad review?
I'm crushed, of course, but I go back and read all my good ones and remind myself that you can't please everyone and that God is the one who has the final word. One naysayer can't hurt you. An army of naysayers can't hurt you unless you choose to let them.
What do you do in your free time?
I love movies and road trips. I love to be on the go and if I'm not, I love to be absorbed in a good movie.
What's your favorite season/weather?
I love them all. Spring is beautiful and lush with all its flowers and new growth. Summer is fun and it reminds me of beach time. Fall is all about leaves and scarves and football. Winter is all about perfectly peaceful snow and crackling fires. I hope to always live in a place where I can enjoy them all.
Favorite places to travel?
The beach and the country
Favorite music?
80's rock
In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with?
Edgar Allan Poe
Blood Like Poison
Like most seventeen year olds, Ridley Heller thought she had her future all planned out. What she wanted most in life was to get out of small town Harker. Her only goal was to keep her mouth shut and her grades high so she could win a cheerleading scholarship to Stanford. But that was before she met Bo. In Ridley’s wildest dreams, she could never have planned for someone like Bo, for a love so intense it left her breathless. No human girl could. A haunting stranger that watched her from afar, Bo stole Ridley’s heart from the moment she laid eyes on him. But he has secrets. Bo’s a vampire. Both his past and his present are a danger to Ridley, but the biggest threat is not her blood; it’s her heart. He’s feeding a thirst for revenge that will cost him his life, and it may already be too late. The more darkness Ridley uncovers, the more she realizes that her life will never be the same—with or without Bo. Can she sacrifice her future and her heart for someone who has a death wish?
