Bio:
Katherine Stone is the New York Times bestselling author of twenty-one novels, including Roommates, Twins, Bed of Roses, Happy Endings, and Pearl Moon. Her books have been translated into twenty languages and are sold worldwide. A physician who now writes full-time, she lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, physician and novelist Jack Chase (Fatal Analysis, Mortality Rate, The Magruder Transplant).Interview:
Katherine is in the process of preparing her previously published novels for publication in new ebook and trade paperback formats. As she is revisiting the books, she is discovering that her characters frequently have more to say, and that she has more (and, yes, less) to say as well. To date, new editions of Roommates, Twins, The Carlton Club, Bel Air, and Love Songs are available. Others will follow as soon as they are the way that she—and her characters—want them to be.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Peppermint candy, ideally topped with cashews and chocolate sauce. Needless to say, this is an always eagerly anticipated Christmastime indulgence.
Night owl, or early bird?
Early bird. I love the drama of night becoming day, watching as darkness gives way to light. And there's that wonderful moment when the first true early bird of the morning awakens and breaks the silent stillness with its song. Peaceful and joyful.
What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
Brat Farrar by Josephine Tey
Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Many! Which, as I think of them, I realize are thematically quite similar.
Some are:
"Come in from the Rain" - Melissa Manchester & Carole Bayer Sager
"That's Enough for Me" - Paul Williams
"Darling Be Home Soon" - Joe Cocker
"Unchained Melody" - Hy Zaret & Alex North
What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Write the book you want to write exactly the way you want to write it. Trust in your unique and authentic voice. Don't put something in - or leave something out - simply because that's what you've been told, or have read, you're supposed to. It has to feel right to you.
You and your editor can negotiate the small stuff when the time comes...
What is your favorite quote?
Everything works out fine in the end. If it isn't fine, it isn't the end. (A reader sent this to me.)
And I've recently discovered the marvelous lines from Sarah Williams' poem "The Old Astronomer."
Though my soul may set in darkness,
It will rise in perfect light.
I have loved the stars too fondly
To be fearful of the night.
Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
Oh, sure...for better or/and worse. I think bits (okay, chunks) of all authors always are. It would be hard, perhaps impossible, to avoid and it is what gives all of us, whether we write or not, our unique vision and voice.
Hidden talent?
If I have one, it is still in hiding.
Roommates by Katherine Stone:
Carrie was a wide-eyed freshman when she arrived at Stanford University, the college she had heard about her entire life. She believed she knew what to expect and couldn’t wait for her collegiate experience to begin. But she was unprepared for the monumental changes and monumental emotions that lay ahead. She was also unprepared for Jake.
Gorgeous, seductive, and deadly, Jake was a man of dark secrets and hidden dreams. He was all wrong for the innocent and optimistic Carrie, but she became part of his secrets and his dreams. But would he ever permit her into the deepest places of his gravely wounded heart?
Megan was Carrie’s roommate. Golden and beautiful, the gifted actress could dazzle and pretend even as her heart was breaking and her world was falling apart. The decision she made would result in a crisis that would reunite them all, opening unhealed wounds and reigniting smoldering passions.
Once entwined, the lives and the loves of the roommates would be forever entwined. And they would be as turbulent and courageous and shimmering as the extraordinary times in which they lived.
