Interview
What is your favorite thing to eat
for breakfast?
I
love to wake up late on a Sunday morning and eat pancakes smothered in
ice-cream and maple syrup. To wash it all down, I like to include a frothy
topped Cappuccino.
Night owl, or early bird?
I’m
a bit of both. I like to stay up late to read but I often wake early,
particularly when I have an exciting project, my mind races and the day has
begun!
Please tell us in one sentence
only, why we should read your book.
Mystery
Falls is a young adult fantasy / paranormal romance written not only for the
young, but also for those who are young at heart.
Any other books in the works?
Goals for future projects?
I
am currently in the process of writing the sequel to Mystery Falls. It will be
entitled - Mystery Rises. Still in development, it is not possible at this time
to say exactly when it will be released, but definitely sometime in 2013.
What inspired you to want to
become a writer?
I
have always loved books. Right from an early age, reading has been a passion of
mine. So I guess; my initial inspiration to become a writer stems from
that. When I was a teenager, I use to
create stories in my head which I would share with my best friend. She found
them entertaining and encouraged me to write them down. I did make an attempt
to follow her suggestion but with my focus largely on my studies, I never
seemed to get very far. It is only recently, that I have finally been able to fulfill
this lifelong dream.
Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
This
is difficult because there has been not one, but many rewarding experiences
since I became a published author.
Seeing my book listed on Smashwords and selling my first copy within 12
hours was one. Receiving my first review, which was extremely positive, was
most definitely another. Discovering
Mystery Falls posted on various blog sites has also been extremely rewarding.
And of course, I cannot forget to mention the many friends I have made. Their
support has been overwhelming and beyond anything I could have imagined.
What is your dream cast for your
book?
When
I first pictured Shadow in my mind, he very much had the appearance of Ian
Somerhalder. Therefore I would have to
say that Ian would be my choice to play Shadow.
Samantha - I can’t picture any current star in her role. I think that
whoever played her would have to be relatively new and radiate an air of
innocence and naivety. Claire -
Jacqueline MacInnes Wood. Mia - someone who is vivacious and outgoing. Uncle
Mike - Richard Gere. Jason Hunt (Sam’s father) - Pierce Brosnan. But honestly,
if Mystery Falls was ever to be made into a movie, I would pretty much be happy
with anyone the producers chose so long as the characters remained true to the
story.
What was your favorite book when
you were a child/teen?
My
first favorite, when I was very young, was ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ by Enid
Blyton. I still have my very first copy.
What's one piece of advice you
would give aspiring authors?
Never
give up on your dreams. Believe in yourself, and eventually you can make your
dreams come true.
Who are your favorite authors of
all time?
In
no particular order - Enid Blyton, Margaret Mitchell, Becca Fitzpatrick,
Stephenie Meyer, Claudia Gray, Amanda Hocking, Amy A. Bartol, Jennifer L.
Armentrout, Nicky Charles. The list is endless because there are so many good
authors out there, some of which I have yet to discover.
What's the best advice anyone has
ever given you?
Don’t
give up. Never give up. Persevere with your dream and you can make it come
true. No one knows what the future holds, so enjoy the journey wherever life
takes you.
What do you do in your free time?
What
free time? No, seriously, any free time I have, I spend with my children and my
hubby. One of the things we love to do as a family; is to take long walks in
the mountains not far from our home. The Dandenong Ranges are very picturesque
and there are many trails to explore.
What's your favorite
season/weather?
Autumn
(Fall). I love when the weather cools after a hot Aussie summer. The changing
colors of the leaves on the trees and the promise of warm open fires. Those
hazy days are special.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate!
Lots and lots of yummy chocolate!
In your wildest dreams, which
author would you love to co-author a book with?
Becca
Fitzpatrick. I like her style of writing.
Print or Ebook?
Either.
I don’t mind the format so long as it’s an interesting and captivating story.
Regular or Diet?
Diet!
I don’t need extra sugar found in regular. I get plenty of that from the
chocolate I eat. Oh! But when it comes to ice cream, you may as well enjoy the
good stuff, and diet just doesn’t cut it.
Horror or Romance?
Romance,
most definitely romance with a little paranormal thrown in.
City or Country?
Country!
Fresh air, picturesque waterfalls, natures sounds, who can go past them?
Curled
up in front of an open fire with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate or
coffee.
Thank
you for taking the time to interview me. I have thoroughly enjoyed the
experience.
Mystery Falls
Secrets. Lies. Deception. For the past six years, Samantha Hunt has lived with the belief that the untimely death of her parents was the result of an unfortunate accident—that by the cruel hand of fate, she had been left an orphan. But it was a lie, a terrible lie told to her by those who wanted to keep her in the dark. And the truth... when revealed, will change her life and haunt her forever.
Suddenly plagued by a series of events which find her in danger and in need of a savior, Samantha is repeatedly rescued by the mysterious and elusive Shadow—a stranger who seems to know more about her past and the tragedy which befell her family, than she does. Drawn to him despite the antagonism she feels whenever in his presence, Samantha soon discovers that Shadow is not what he appears to be. Determined to learn his true identity and why he has come to Mystery Falls, the small town in which she has spent all of her seventeen years, Samantha not only uncovers the secrets he refuses to share, but also the truth about her own past. A truth which forces her to acknowledge that things are not always as they seem, and sometimes, not even those close to you can be trusted.
Resolved to seeking justice for the unwarranted death of her parents, Samantha embarks on a journey which brings her perilously close to her own demise. Can Shadow use his angel powers to save her yet again, or this time, will he be too late.
