Interview
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should
read your book.
Because it’s almost Christmas, and do you really want
to spoil the most wonderful time of the year with some dark, icky dystopian
vampire novel when North Pole High can to bring joy to your world?
How do you react to a bad review?
I try not to let them get to me. I know not everyone
will love my book, just like not everyone loves fruitcake. But I am a real
person, with real feelings, not some cartoon character. So bad reviews do make
me sad. And then my dad finds out, because he sees everything. And he goes and
moves the reviewer over to his bad list and the reviewer ends up getting
a lump of coal for Christmas. So in the end it all works out, just like in a
good book! :)
What is one book everyone should read?
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I’m
especially fond of this one because Scrooge hates Christmas at first, not
unlike my boyfriend, Rudy, when I first met him, but (spoiler alert) finds his
Christmas Spirit by the end. Perfect. <3 o:p="o:p">3>
What book are you embarrassed to admit you’ve read?
50 Shades of Grey. It’s not that I’m embarrassed.
It’s just that my parents wouldn’t be thrilled. Well, my dad, mostly. It was
Mom’s copy that I borrowed. LOL.
Which authors have influenced you the most, and how?
Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games taught me a
lot about where to break chapters to keep the pages turning. Also, my editor
had to keep reminding me to be more descriptive. When I read Lauren Oliver’s Delirium,
which I thought was overly descriptive, it somehow opened up the description
well in my writing.
What's your favorite season/weather?
Our seasons are a lot different here in the North Pole
than what you’re probably used to. We have Daylight, when the sun is out day
and night for five months. Then we have a whole month of constant Dusk. Then it
gets Dark for five months, which isn’t so bad because of all the beautiful
Christmas lights. And then finally my favorite season of all, Christmastime!
And the weather is always a perfect -32 degrees and snowy.
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things
would you want with you?
A desert island? This would be a lot easier to
answer if it was a dessert island. LOL. Well, snow, for one thing. I
could never survive the heat near that equator thingy. And a Christmas tree,
for nourishment, because I could always survive on the candy canes. And my
boyfriend. For obvious reasons.
Do you prefer a bunch of small gifts or one big
expensive one?
That’s easy. It’s not the size or value of a gift that
matters. So I’m definitely a volume girl. Gimme lots of presents all year long!
And no, my dad does not slide down our chimney and leave me a present every
night. But I do have one of every toy ever made. :)
What movie are you looking forward to this year?
Rise of the Guardians. Not just
because my dad’s in it. But because I visited him on the set and they let me be
in a scene. That was sooo cool. It was a crowd scene, so I don’t know if you’ll
see me. But I can’t wait anyway.
Pet Peeves?
People who think my dad isn’t real. Look, if he didn’t
exist, how could I be here? Oh, and people who’ve never seen me always assume
I’m fat like my dad. Lords-a-leaping! And I suppose they think I have a bushy
white beard, too?
You have won one million dollars what is the first
thing that you would buy?
Cookies, duh!
