Author Interview & Book Giveaway: The Gangster's Daughter or Trusting the Law

Welcome to Author Kendall Evans.

I am a romance writer who enjoys writing Christian romance, sweet romance, and occasionally, non-fiction. Though I'm relatively new to this side of the publishing realm, I've been writing for years under another pseudonym. I've written everything from poetry to epic novels, but my first release as Kendall Evans is my very first foray in 1800's historical. I live near the beach and consider myself blessed to be able to smell the salt of the ocean air and hear the waves crashing over the shore. And watching the sun setting at night over the shoreline is truly breathtaking. I work from home, mostly business consulting and freelance writing (website copy, ads, and the like), and I'm surrounded by wonderful friends and family who continually bless my life.

If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?

Definitely back in time to the 1920s. I have such a fascination with that time period, and I would love to see Chicago during that time period!

Night owl, or early bird? 

Night owl. I’m usually up until after four in the morning.

One food you would never eat? 

Hominy. Ugh.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?  

I do have another book in the works right now that’s set during the time of the Titanic, and I’m bouncing around an idea right now of a book every decade beginning with 1900 and continuing to 1950 and calling it the Decade Series. We’ll see how that works out.

If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be? Twilight. Forks, Washington, but I would have to be able to have my own choice of the Cullens. Yes, I’m a Twihard and not ashamed to admit it. J

What is your dream cast for your book? 

This is a really interesting question, but I’d have to say Ryan Gosling for Paul because he’s rough and absolutely gorgeous, and Natalie Portman for Anna because she looks so sweet and gentle, but she can really play tough when she needs to.

What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors? 

I’m far from an expert, but I would have to say learn how to self-edit. Turning in a manuscript with hundreds of mistakes not only looks bad on the author, but it may result in an immediate rejection.

Just never send an unedited copy of your manuscript to an agent or publisher.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? 

New Zealand. I may have romanticized it in my mind, but everything I’ve read about it only makes me want to go more. The people, the views, all of it just draws me in.

If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play the lead role and why? 

Kristen Stewart because she reminds me a lot of myself at that age except for Robert Pattinson as a boyfriend. And I think she could play me with the right amount of attitude. Of course, they’d have to have some good make-up people to age her once I got out of my twenties!

Who are your favorite authors of all time? 

Jane Austen

What's the best advice anyone has ever given you? Believe in yourself no matter what the people around you might say.

In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with? 

Teri Blackstock. Love her books!

Print or Ebook? 

E-book as I absolutely LOVE my Kindle. Next up on my list is a Kindle Fire!

Horror or Romance? 

Romance. I’ve seen maybe three horror movies in my entire life. Too much violence and gore for me.

City or Country? 

City all the way. I like to be close to the malls, to the theaters, and to the bright lights. Too much quiet prevents me from sleeping. J

Trusting the Law

The last person Anna needs to fall in love with is a police officer, especially since she breaks the law every day. Running a speakeasy wasn’t her first choice, but making money is. With the price of hooch at an all-time premium, the money is more than enough to pay for her uncle’s expensive medication and the bills. She doubts Officer Paul Gordon will see things the same way.
Paul is enchanted with the chestnut-haired woman he runs into on a cold, Chicago street, and that enchantment quickly turns to more. If someone were to tell him she was a criminal, he’d never believe it. Then he sees it for himself. When Anna is ar-rested, he must make a decision—protect her or his badge.

Jack Malone has one mission in Chicago—apprehend notorious gangster, Antonio Donnatelli. It shouldn’t matter that Donnatelli is using his daughter, Maria, to get close to Jack, to find out his weakness. Jack knows the man’s ways, and he can ignore the beautiful Italian lady with her mysterious brown eyes and soft voice. Until the gunfire starts. Then his need to protect her overcomes his duty.
