Author Elizabeth Richards:

Elizabeth Richards is an award-winning journalist, who spent her early career reviewing videogames before making the bold (or crazy) move into travel writing, despite suffering from terrible travel sickness.

In her spare time, she ran a successful lifestyle website aimed at teenage girls, where she got to interview many of her favourite bands, go to gigs and basically blag loads of free swag all in the name of ‘research’.

Elizabeth lives in Buckinghamshire, England, with her husband. Black City is her debut novel.

Interview:

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?

Very much so! I think I’m most like the four principal friends in the book - I’m inquisitive like Natalie, sarcastic like Ash, a slob like Beetle, and a book geek like Day.  They all have a little part of me in them.

What is your dream cast for your book?

Ooooh! That’s a good one. I think someone a bit weird but beautiful, like Ezra Miller, would make a good Ash (but more how he looked in We Need To Talk About Kevin, rather than The Perks of Being A Wallflower). As for Natalie, I think Aimee Teegarden from Friday Night Lights would be absolutely perfect casting; and Henry Czerny from Revenge would make a suitably sinister and scary Purian Rose.

What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Learn to accept criticism with grace.  

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?

I’ve just finished Phoenix, and am working on book #3 in the BLACK CITY series. Then once that’s done, I have a new dystopian/sci-fi series up my sleeve, and possibly a contemporary novel too! I’m really looking forward to next year. Although it will be sad to say goodbye to the cast of Black City, I’m excited about exploring new worlds and falling in love with a whole new cast of characters.

What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?

Gosh, I haven’t been to the movies in such a long time because of book deadlines, I don’t even know what’s coming out. Oh! The new Twilight movie. That should be fun.  Regarding books, the next one on my TBR list is CREWEL, by Gennifer Albin. Can’t wait!
